The topic of compliance and anti-money laundering deals with the functions and
organization of compliance, the rules on money laundering and the diligence
requirements for its prevention.
This involves in particular the obligations to identify the client, the beneficial owner and
the controlling person. In addition, business relationships and transactions with increased risk are explained in detail.

Learning goals for
'Compliance awareness'
After studying this module, you will:
- know how compliance is understood to be,
- understand the difference between the duties of compliance and the legal
department, - be sensitized to the fact that all business activities of a bank and its employees
can only be carried out within the framework of the national legal system and
international guidelines, - have an overview of what sanctions can be imposed in the context of regulator’s
enforcement proceedings or criminal proceedings if a bank is non-compliant.
'Concept and rules'
After studying this module, you will
- know about the process and phases of money laundering,
- understand how combating money laundering has developed and its expansion
to combating terrorist financing and qualified tax offences, - know about the legal consequences of money laundering and its predicate
offences, in particular, bribery of officials and political dignitaries, but also
about severe offences against property (e.g., fraud, robbery, extortion), and
aggravated tax misdemeanors, - gain an understanding of the international dimension of the fight against money
laundering, terrorist financing and corruption and the work of the standard
setters (GAFI/FATF, OECD and Transparency International).
'Due diligence'
After completing this module:
- you will understand who a financial intermediary is and under what circumstances
they are subject to the obligations of the anti money laundering regulations, - you know the due diligence obligations of the financial intermediaries according
to anti money laundering regulations, - you know, in particular, about the identification obligations at the start of the
agreement and the monitoring obligations during the ongoing agreement
relationships, - you know the concept of risk-based monitoring,
- you know what you need to do in the event of suspected money laundering.
'Obligations of identification'
After studying this module, you will:
- know the rules and principles of money laundering prevention,
- know what must be considered when entering into client relationships with private
individuals and legal entities/partnerships, - are aware of what needs to be taken into account for continued client
relationships. - learn, in particular, how you correctly identify clients (e.g. contracting parties) as
well as determine the beneficial owner and the controlling person.
'Increased risks'
After studying this module, you will:
- know how to conduct the risk classification of business relationships or transactions as normal risk and increased risk,
- understand the consequences of risk categorization of clients, beneficial owners
and controlling persons and how to act appropriately, - know under what circumstances you involve compliance or other parties.

Self-study via interactive e-learning module with discoverable content and videos plus final learning control via online test.
Learning control
Your online self-control test consists of 15 to 20 multiple choice questions. You will pass the test if you reach at least 70% of the maximum score.
